Firefighters who are disorientated, trapped or missing can be located quickly and easily with the new Draeger FRT 1000 Fire Rescue Transceiver.
Designed to aid find and rescue operations even where visibility is limited or where background noise might prevent firefighters from hearing their colleagues, the device can be used to trace single as well as multiple casualties.
Worn on the waist and easily activated prior to entering a potentially dangerous area, this handy unit sends and receives low frequency (457 kHz) signals which are not attenuated by walls and other obstacles.
Should the wearer remain motionless for 30 seconds the device, which incorporates an integral movement sensor, will send an audible alarm signal and automatically change from “standby” to “transmit” mode.
In order to perform search and rescue, the other firefighters can manually switch their units from “standby” to “fire fighter search” mode. The display, which automatically indicates the distance to the casualty, will then show an increase or decrease in this distance depending on the direction taken by the wearer.
This means that casualties can be located even when the source of the alarm signal cannot be determined directly because of background noise, or poor visibility, etc. If several firefighters are motionless, the device will isolate the strongest signal from a distance of about 10m, identifying the closest victim first and enabling casualties to be located sequentially.
In addition, should any of the wearers lose their orientation, they can actively find their way back to their colleagues by switching the device to “fire fighter search” mode and using their radio to request that colleagues switch to “transmit” mode.
To facilitate a safe return despite dense smoke or complex environments, a Draeger ETR 1000 Egress Transmitter can also be strategically placed at the exit or in stairwells, etc. Once the casualty has been reached or a withdrawal has been ordered, the FRT 1000 can be switched to “Egress Transmitter Search” mode and the display will automatically indicate the distance to the ETR beacon.
Draeger manufactures a wide range of firefighter protective equipment including breathing apparatus and respiratory protection as well as personal escape sets, chemical protection suits and both portable and fixed gas detection systems.
