Bosch explores the use of their fire detection products

A practical look at fire prevention from Mexico City to The United Arab Emirates (UAE)

CASE STUDY 1: MEXICO CITY
Bosch Security Systems was chosen as the supplier of a comprehensive networked security solution for the new building complex Capital Reforma in Mexico’s capital city. The solution comprises video surveillance systems, fire detection and voice evacuation systems as well as access control. The entire solution can be monitored and operated centrally.
Capital Reforma is located in a prestigious neighborhood with many tourist attractions, luxurious restaurants, office buildings and public art exhibitions. It has also become a traditional place for the Mexicans to celebrate; for example, many parades make their way through this avenue. Capital Reforma is a multi-purpose building complex with two 108 meter high towers each with 25 floors and 30,000 square meters of office space, 14,000 square meters of luxury condominiums and a parking space with 1,760 square meters. In order to provide a secure environment for visitors and anybody working or living in the building complex, a comprehensive security solution fulfilling any requirements of the different areas was needed.
With regard to fire detection, the local Bosch partner Insecom decided on an integrated and highly-scalable solution that is based on the Modular Fire Panel 5000 Series. The selected fire detectors 420 Series guarantee fast and immediate response on the one hand, on the other hand robustness against false alarms and thus provide reliable operation in each of the different areas. Miguel A. Reyes from Insecom confirms: “Bosch not only offers the flexible and high quality products we are looking for, but also proves to be a great parImproved_Safety_at_Etisalat_in_Abu_Dhabi_1tner to work with. Additionally, the Modular Fire Panel 5000 Series is much easier to install, operate and maintain than the third party systems we had mostly used in the past.” An important aspect of the Bosch systems is also the offered backwards compatibility, something Insecom had missed with other suppliers before, where they had been faced with frequent model changes. The fire detection system is interfaced with the PLENA Voice Alarm system, which allows the operator to distribute targeted evacuation instructions tailored to the different areas and their escape routes. A comprehensive video solution has been realized using the AUTODOME IP cameras, which meet the requirements of the building’s aesthetic. The cameras provide high quality images, even in low light or high contrast. Access control is based on the Bosch AMC (Access Modular Controller) and efficiently rounds off the security solution. Access, registration and control of visitors and tenants are consequently ensured at any time.
THE MODULAR FIRE PANEL 5000 SERIES
Unbeatable flexibility
With the Modular Fire Panel 5000 Series, Bosch is again redefining the market: With this product, you configure your own system according to the modular principle, and you can expand it in accordance with your specific needs. From an isolated control panel with one loop to a complex panel network. The modular system provides reusable “click-and-go” modules and interchangeable housings that are easy to install and operate. The system adapts to the nature and size of your facility’s application so you only buy what you really need – nothing more and nothing less. The practical CAN bus mounting lets you conveniently place or replace modules anywhere, so they are operational in the shortest possible time. This “hot plug” feature means that the system doesn’t have to be powered down for module changes. And that means that the system continues monitoring security for you without interruption.
Outstanding user-friendliness
Installation and operation of the 5000 Series panel are straightforward and clearly explained. The user interface has been ergonomically redesigned for intuitive operation with a large display. In addition, all indicators and buttons are located directly on the associated modules, making them even easier to use and minimizing operator errors. Updates to configurations are uploaded to the panel using a laptop computer, locally or by remote programming.
A superior standard of reliability Continuous self-monitoring by the central processor assures reliable operational control. Optionally, functional integrity can be ensured with a redundant loop configuration and a redundant panel controller. This is supported by automatic diagnostics during installation and operation. Since all modules are protected by a plastic housing, they may be used in harsh environments with confidence. With the Modular Fire Panel 5000 Series system, Bosch puts all your worries to rest.
CASE STUDY 2: ABU DHABI
Improved Safety at Etisalat in Abu Dhabi
Bosch Fire Alarm System for Leading Telecommunications Service Provider in the United Arab Emirates
Bosch Security Systems has just installed a state-of-the-art fire alarm system at the headquarters of Etisalat, the leading provider of telecommunications services in the United Arab Emirates. Etisalat supplies the UAE’s 4.2 million inhabitants with 4 million mobile connections, and has one of the highest saturation rates in the mobile sector worldwide.
The Etisalat headquarters in Abu Dhabi, including a 25-floor office building and a nine-floor parking garage, was equipped with five Modular Fire Panels 5000 Series, as well as 800 smoke and heat detectors. 30 duct smoke detectors were also installed in air ducts throughout the office tower, and manual call points were installed at each of the 100 exits. Modular construction will allow additional buildings and alarms to be integrated easily into the main system.
The centralized Building Integration System (BIS) is used to coordinate, operate, and monitor all of the alarm system components. In addition, the integrated Bosch Fire Telephone and Voice Evacuation (EVAX) system combines alarm information with floor plans and emergency evacuation routes.
Bosch partner GECO installed the new fire alarm system at the Etisalat headquarters, using the building’s existing wiring. Thanks to open standards, the existing loud speakers were also able to be integrated into the new system.
